Mizuno are a long-established Japanese company that was founded by two brothers in Osaka in 1906. They have a long history in running and athletics and have sponsored some great events and athletes over the years, such as the American Carl Lewis.
Local runner, coach and sports therapist Ben Gamble is a fan of the brand and has been running in Mizuno shoes for much of his training over the years. “I really like the combination of the lightness, cushioning and durability that you get with Mizuno. I do most of my longer training runs in my Wave Riders, but they’re also light enough for my shorter, faster sessions as well. The fit and firmness of the sole also really suit my natural, generally neutral gait.” You might even find him wearing a pair at work in his Stone clinic!
Other models offer differing levels of support and cushioning, and Ben also runs in the Wave Sky model for easier long runs; “I’ve had some problems with my Achilles in the past, but the extra cushioning, especially under the heel, in the Wave Sky has really helped me to build up my running outside”.
